OUR STORY
“We pride ourselves in exceptional customer care and satisfaction, standing firm in our belief that Through Caring We Lead.”
Team Ekerold
Ekerold Yamaha was founded and established in 1984 by brothers, Jon and Peter Ekerold. Hailing from an enthusiastic motorcycling family, the brothers shared a love for the sport. Their family name is a household name in the racing community.
Peter Ekerold claimed the South African Road Racing 250cc Championship in 1979, followed by Jon Ekerold’s success in winning a World Championship in 1980.
Jon Ekerold
Peter took over sole ownership after buying Jon’s shares in 1988, carrying on the family legacy. After more than a decade of building the Ekerold name and caring business practices, Peter handed the torch to Chris Malan in 2002.
Chris followed in the brother’s footsteps to continue the grounded work ethic and ethos that has built Ekerold Yamaha’s reputation to date. Through caring, we help customers navigate the buying, selling and servicing of motorbikes and accessories.
Early 2007, Ekerold Yamaha moved from their historical site in Greyling Street, Pietermaritzburg to Victoria Road. This larger site helped Chris expand the capabilities of Ekerold Yamaha. With a larger showroom and workshop, Chris and his dedicated team have from strength to strength. Now offering everything Yamaha from motorbikes to quads, golf carts to water vehicles, and more recently with power products.
In 2020, Chris took the next step for Ekerold Yamaha and once again brought them to the fore by building an online store that echoes the Ekerold tradition – bring the best value with all the information at hand, helping his customers to always make an informed purchase that truly suits their unique needs.
In 2023 Terry Alexander stepped forward, joining Chris at first, and then received the torch to continue the run to service-excellence.
Ekerold Yamaha has been an industry leader for going on three decades, committed we aim to keep it going for generations to come.
